Macromedia released the FLV interframe Flash video format with Flash MX and Flash Player 6. The codec, called Sorenson Spark, was based on the H.263 international video compression standard.

Flash MX 및 Flash 6 버전에서는 H.263 에 기반한 Sorenson Spark 코덱을 사용하였다.

Flash 8 버전의 Flash Video Encoder 에서는 On2 VP6 코덱으로 one-pass CBR(constant bit-rate) 를 지원한다. 더고화질인코딩을 하고자 한다면two-pass VBR(variable bit-rate) 인코딩을 지원하는third-party 제품의 사용을 고려해할 수 도 있을 것이다.
